Power Feeders

A power feeder is an automated mechanical device used in woodworking on machines like shapers, table saws, and jointers to continuously and evenly push stock past the cutting tool at a constant speed, keeping your hands safely away from the blade while ensuring a uniform, burn-free cut.

In electrical engineering, an electricity feeder is a high-capacity power line or circuit conductor that transmits electrical energy from a main power source, substation, or generating station to distribution points, transformers, or service panels without tapping off power along its direct route.

In woodworking and metalworking, power feeders are generally categorized by roller configuration—such as 3-roller, 4-roller, or multi-feed units—and mounting style, including radial arm feeders, stationary column-mounted units, and variable-speed systems designed to feed stock smoothly through shapers, table saws, and jointers.

Depending on the specific industrial context, three common classifications include vibratory feeders (using harmonic vibration to move parts), gravity feeders (relying on a downward incline for unpowered material flow), and positive displacement/mechanical feeders (such as apron or belt systems that move exact volumes at controlled speeds).

In industrial manufacturing and material handling, the four primary types of feeders are belt feeders for continuous bulk transport, vibratory feeders for precise parts orientation and metered flow, screw/auger feeders for powders and viscous materials, and roller/power stock feeders used in woodworking and machining to feed boards steadily through cutters.
