Many finely divided reactive metal powders are extremely flammable and present a severe combustible dust explosion hazard. The most common flammable and explosive metal dusts include aluminum, magnesium, titanium, zinc, iron, and zirconium. When suspended in the air at the right concentration, a spark or ignition source can cause a catastrophic explosion, which is why specialized dust collection systems with explosion venting, wet-type filtration, or grounded antistatic components are mandatory.
