Outdoor Dust Collector

Outdoor Dust Collector

An outdoor dust collector moves filtration out of the building entirely, housing its filter canisters in a weatherproofed enclosure so a large-capacity system doesn't have to take up floor space, headroom, or wall run inside the shop. We carry Castaly's Outdoor Enclosure House Canisters line in four sizes — 10 HP through 30 HP — built to duct back into a production floor from outside.

Why Move Dust Collection Outdoors

Once a dust collection system gets large enough to serve a full production floor, it starts competing with your shop for space — floor footprint, ceiling height, and a clear path for ductwork. An outdoor dust collector solves that by relocating the filter canisters, motor, and collection drums to a weatherproofed enclosure outside the building, with ductwork routed through the wall to feed the machines inside. That frees up usable floor space, keeps collector noise outside the work area, and makes it easier to add capacity later without reshuffling the shop layout.

Outdoor Dust Collectors by Capacity

Castaly 10 HP Outdoor Enclosure House Canisters Dust Collector — $31,438.00

The entry point into our outdoor dust collector line — a weatherproofed housing for the filter canisters sized to serve a shop stepping up from indoor central dust collection. View this dust collector →

Castaly 15 HP Outdoor Enclosure House Canisters Dust Collector — $39,138.00

More HP and canister capacity than the 10 HP model, still housed entirely outside the building envelope — a common fit for a mid-size production shop. View this dust collector →

Castaly 20 HP Outdoor Enclosure House Canisters Dust Collector — $47,190.00

A multi-canister filtration system on a full support frame, sized for a facility running significant ducted airflow to multiple stations at once. View this dust collector →

Castaly 30 HP Outdoor Enclosure House Canisters Dust Collector — $63,569.00

The largest outdoor dust collector we carry — an elevated steel platform with triple filter housing units, built for a full-scale production facility that needs maximum airflow. View this dust collector →

What to Plan For Before Installing an Outdoor Dust Collector

• Foundation or pad: these units are heavy once loaded with dust and need a level concrete pad rated for the equipment weight.
• Wall penetration for ductwork: plan the duct route through the wall before the pad goes in, so runs stay short and straight.
• Local code and permitting: an outdoor dust collector is typically a visible structural addition, so check setback and permitting requirements before you order.
• Climate exposure: in freeze-prone regions, ductwork and moisture drainage need to be designed so collected dust doesn't clump or freeze inside the system.

Choosing the Right Outdoor Dust Collector Size

• Stepping up from indoor central dust collection: the 10 HP model is our smallest outdoor unit.
• Mid-size production floor: the 15 HP model balances capacity with a smaller footprint than the largest units.
• Multiple stations running simultaneously: the 20 HP model's multi-canister design holds airflow steady under continuous load.
• Full-scale production facility: the 30 HP model is built for the highest airflow demand in our lineup.

Outdoor Placement and Combustible Dust Safety

Locating a large-capacity dust collector outdoors is a recognized way to reduce combustible dust risk inside a facility, since it keeps the largest concentration of collected dust outside occupied space — a consideration addressed in standards like NFPA 664 for wood processing facilities. That said, outdoor placement doesn't remove the need for proper grounding, duct design, and clearance from the building, so it's worth planning the installation with those standards in mind rather than treating it as an afterthought.

Why Shop Outdoor Dust Collectors With Us

We carry the full Castaly Outdoor Enclosure House Canisters lineup in one place, so you can compare HP, canister capacity, and price across all four sizes without bouncing between manufacturer pages. Every spec here comes straight from the manufacturer's documentation, and we're happy to help you think through duct routing, pad sizing, and system capacity before you order.

FAQ

What is an outdoor dust collector?

It's a dust collection system whose filter canisters, motor, and collection drums are housed in a weatherproofed enclosure outside the building, with ductwork routed through the wall to serve machines inside. It functions the same as an indoor central dust collector, just relocated to free up floor space.

Why would I put my dust collector outside instead of inside the shop?

The biggest reasons are floor space and headroom — a large-capacity system takes up a lot of room, and moving it outdoors frees that space for machinery. It also keeps collector noise and the bulk of accumulated dust outside the occupied work area.

What size outdoor dust collector do I need?

Add up the CFM requirement of every machine you'll run on the system at once and match that to a model's rated airflow — our lineup runs from 10 HP up to 30 HP. Call us with your machine list and we'll help you land on the right size.

Do I need a special foundation for an outdoor dust collector?

Yes — these are heavy units once loaded with dust, and they need a level concrete pad rated for the equipment weight, along with a planned duct penetration through the wall. It's worth finalizing that plan before the pad is poured.

Does an outdoor dust collector still need to meet combustible dust codes?

Yes. Outdoor placement helps reduce risk inside the building, but proper grounding, duct design, and clearance requirements under standards like NFPA 664 still apply to the installation.
