Solid carbide is significantly harder, more rigid, and more wear-resistant than standard high-speed steel (HSS) or cobalt bits, allowing it to maintain a sharp cutting edge at extremely high temperatures; however, because it is so hard, it is also brittle and can snap easily under sudden lateral stress or vibration.
