Resin Casting

To get started with resin casting—whether you are making small jewelry pieces, trays, or river tables—you need a core set of materials, mixing tools, and safety gear to ensure proper curing and a clean finish.

Casting resin (or deep-pour resin) has a very low, water-like viscosity designed to cure slowly in thick layers without overheating, whereas standard epoxy (coating/tabletop resin) has a thicker viscosity and cures quickly in thin surface layers.

Resin crafting can have a high initial startup cost due to safety equipment, silicone molds, pressure pots, and high-grade resin, though small starter kits make it relatively affordable to try on a budget.

While most standard casting resins require 24 to 72 hours at room temperature to fully cure and harden, fast-setting casting resins can achieve initial demold times in as little as 4 to 12 hours depending on the depth of the pour and ambient room temperature.

Fully cured epoxy resin is generally considered non-toxic and inert for casual contact, but sanding, cutting, or heating it releases micro-particles and toxic fumes, meaning it is still unsafe for direct food contact unless explicitly certified as food-safe.
