Enco machines

No, Enco is no longer a standalone business. Originally a popular catalog supplier of affordable machine tools and metalworking equipment, Enco was officially absorbed by its parent company, MSC Industrial Supply Co., in 2016. The separate Enco website and catalogs were shut down at that time. However, the brand itself is not entirely dead; MSC still sells a selection of machinery under the Enco name and continues to provide warranty support and replacement parts for existing Enco machines. If you are looking to buy new Enco equipment or need parts for an older machine in your shop, you will need to go directly through MSC Industrial.

Enco offers a wide assortment of metalworking machinery and shop equipment, including knee mills, engine lathes, mill/drills, horizontal and vertical bandsaws, surface grinders, and metal fabrication tools like press brakes and shears.

Enco milling machines and heavy workshop tools are predominantly manufactured in Taiwan and China as private-label machinery distributed via industrial supply houses like MSC Industrial Supply.

Enco tools and machinery—spanning manual engine lathes, vertical milling machines, drill presses, band saws, and tooling accessories like end mills and chucks—are used across manufacturing, maintenance, and fabrication shops for precision metal cutting, shaping, drilling, and machining operations.

Enco lathes are generally regarded as solid, dependable, vintage-style manual metalworking lathes that were widely distributed across American machine shops; while they were built as sturdy, budget-friendly import machines (often manufactured in Taiwan or China), they hold their alignment well, handle general turning, threading, and facing tasks reliably, and are considered great value on the used market if they have been well-maintained.

The exact origin of the name 'Enco' as used by Enco Mfg. Co. (the machine tool company founded in Chicago in 1942 by Nathan and Esther Usiskin) isn't definitively documented, and it's unrelated to the identically-named Enco gasoline brand once used by Standard Oil/Exxon. Enco's machine tool business grew from tailstock turrets and magnetic tooling into a full line of lathes, mills, and shop equipment before MSC Industrial Supply absorbed the brand in 2016.
